Richard Clare, Artist

Artist Richard Clare with Paint Palette

Originally from Sheffield and now residing in Delph, Richard Clare loves to walk the expansive Moorlands from which many of his paintings are inspired.

His love of landscapes is evident from his body of work, not just rural but urban too, he says the quality and colour of light is important to his paintings and loves the way it emphasises the undulations and textures which are important to the atmosphere of his paintings and prefers to work when the sun is low in the sky.

Many of Richards paintings are created from memory after long walks on the Moors, some of which are not started until weeks or months afterwards.  Distinctly different than his Plein air pieces, they are lavish in texture, rich in velvety hues and dynamic staccato strokes that invoke a impressionistic metaphorical ambiance.

Currently Richard has a studio at Woodend Mill in Mossley and also a gallery and framing workshop in Delph. He is also represented by several independent galleries in the North West.
