I’ve mentioned Rob in an earlier post, when I photographed him for my project about Artist Tools. 

During the same period I was also creating a film about Rob and his love of art, music and his family.

He paints from his garden studio, a converted shed that’s just outside his kitchen window, conveniently placed to nip back in to make a cup of tea. The shed, his studio is cleverly lined with foiled insulation for the winter months and is a pleasant space that allows him to paint be creative and spread out his materials.

What’s particularly lovely is that he’s surrounded his studio with raised flower & vegetable beds, creating a calming and natural atmosphere in this suburban space.

Besides art, Rob has a passion for music and was a regular member of a pub band, although a little rusty, he was still eager to play his guitar for me.

Scattered around Robs home, you will find window sills and shelves packed with potatoes that are being chitted, a testament to his love of gardening and fresh food. The variety of produce that he grows is so much that he shares a lot with his neighbours. His walls are adorned with his paintings, a convenient storage solution and a great way to showcase his work.  Amongst his collection are prints from fellow artists who share the space with his creations.

During the filming sessions, I also captured some natural portraits of Rob around his home. These informal portraits convey his friendly and warm hearted nature, set against the backdrop of his favourite things.
